Cymru Football Foundation – Community Hub Mural Project

The project

The Cymru Football Foundation (CFF), in partnership with the Football Association of Wales (FAW), is leading the transformation of grassroots football facilities across Wales through a multi-million-pound investment programme. As part of this wider vision, Andco Studio was appointed as the official design partner to help bring a sense of pride, identity and local storytelling to newly refurbished community hubs across the country.

Each site celebrates the power of football to inspire future generations. Our mural strategy places local role models at the heart of the story — professional footballers who grew up in the area and went on to represent Wales at the highest level. The aim is simple: to show young players what’s possible when talent meets opportunity.

It’s a flexible, collaborative relationship built on trust, helping bring structure and clarity to communications across the Insperial group.

Our approach

As official design partner to the Cymru Football Foundation, Andco Studio developed a consistent visual identity for mural installations across Wales, working in close collaboration with our colleagues at Morgans Consult.

Each design celebrates local professional players who once walked the same paths as today’s grassroots teams – icons who went on to represent Wales at the highest level. We created bespoke illustrated portraits of these footballers in a bold, unified style, accompanied by motivational quotes and large-scale identity graphics. Designs were adapted for each site, responding to architectural features and community input, while remaining true to the overarching Cymru Football Foundation brand.

From early research and concept development through to final artwork and production-ready layouts, we helped ensure every mural not only looked the part, but felt rooted in its community.

The impact

The murals have become more than just decoration – they’re conversation starters, sources of local pride, and visual anchors for each hub’s role in the community. Whether it’s Danny Gabbidon unveiling the new facilities at Pillgwenlly, or young players walking out under the gaze of their hometown heroes, the designs serve to connect place, people and purpose through football.

As the CFF continues to invest in more sites across Wales, these murals ensure every space tells a story – of heritage, hope, and what it means to wear the Cymru shirt.
